i may have dramatized and camped up the whole thing, but it is what it is still.
that's why it all fits so well.
i've not actually done anything to change the plot, i've just matched like to like and played a role.
but that's the job ya see, to make stories, and engaging narrative content.
.. i've quite enjoyed it actually. but the points are still very true. as they always are with the best narratives.

that's why uo is such a good game tho, because like they say in the gdc post mortum, it's like a mini society made up of actual people.
so you end up effectively managing a small town, and things like civics and government became important, voting, etc. but the other part of that is all our stories and music, are wrote about people, and society. so it all fits perfectly. it's literally the same thing, just in the virtual world.

the truth of it, is that it simultaneously matters, and doesn't matter at all. it just depends how much you care about the game as a virtual world, and how much you buy into the narrative of it.
understanding is a three edged sword... your side, their side, and the truth. that's the 3 sides, that it doesn't matter at all cos it's just a vehicle for mechanics; that it is everything because it's a virtual society. and the truth that it is everything, but only within that virtual society.

see the people that play for pvp only see the game as a vehicle for the mechanics, but what they are failing to understand, is that the mechanics are not where the actual fun of uo pvp comes from. i might be wrong here i suppose because i dont do it myself, but i would guess the fun comes from being able to torment other players, which you cant do without the virtual society to make it matter.
