Doom Gauntlet Mechanics (fresher needed)

I remember reading, years ago, a posting that explained the mechanics of arty drops and stated that individual luck doesn't matter all that much because only the luck of the top damager matters, and most of the time, you won't be the top damager.

I would like to know if that is or was correct and if it is still correct. I realize things changed with the point accumulation system and I don't know if I read that before or after the calc change. This is one time in particular that losing access to the old forums and the wealth of information therein really sucks.

Any learned explanations of the mechanics of Doom would be much appreciated.

The way I understand it is that your luck and damage, as well as the number of players who got looting rights, all factor into how many points you accumulate per kill. As these points go up, the Arty chance increases until you get one then it resets.

The official post about the system was sadly lost with the old forums, however all the relevant information is still available on this fan website (SpokLand).

Basically, your individual damage and individual luck do count. The top damager's luck does not apply to everyone anymore in terms of artifact drops.

Thank you, that was extremely helpful.

After a review, I believe it is safe to assume:

If you get looting rights, you are making progress toward an eventual artifact.
If you can do that with high luck, you are making more progress than with low luck.
If you are doing a higher % of the total damage, you are making more progress than if you do a lower % of the damage.

So, if you can get looting rights while doing a large % of the damage and while wearing a high luck suit, you are making optimum progress toward an arty drop.

If you are wondering how long it takes to get an arty doing Doom solo,
it took me 9 rounds on the Test Center, with honor every monster and 685 luck.
Tested only once so may be some range there.

So if we have 2 people and both doing same damage, I assume it will take about 18 rounds and each one gets an arty.

3 people with same damage and luck - 27 rounds.

If we can run very fast and make 1 round in 10 min, it will be 270 min = 4.5 hours to get artifact, if every one doing same damage.

But in reality someone can do x2 damage more then other player and if he has also more luck, and gets an arty in 2 hours (maybe).

That's not how probability works but you have the right idea. Also, the person doing more damage doesnt exactly have a higher chance, but you do want the person doing the most damage to have the highest luck as their bonus is the only one applied to the point pool for people who received looting rights.

Edit- Oh from what AOS said "person doing the most damage to have the highest luck as their bonus is the only one applied to the point pool" is not* how it works anymore. Disregard that part. :)

Just pulled an AOF on my 27th round, 4 hours and 19 minutes, running a Disco Tamer with 1544 luck. Over those 27 rounds, there were a variety of situations ranging from a few solo rounds to rounds where there were so many people we were getting 2x per boss. It is pretty uncanny how close you tabbed my actual result.

no points only reset once you get an arty drop
