52 cards for 52 weeks in the year.
2 colors for day and night
4 suits for the 4 seasons and 13 weeks per season.
Twelve court cards representing the 12 months.
If we add each of the cards (ace + ace + ace + ace + two + two + two + two ... etc) we will get 365.
13 + 12 + 11 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 91 x 4 = 364
still pretty cool. i think it says more about people than playing cards though.
ie. we have divided the year the same way we divide anything.

btw just in reference to the etymology stuff.. this is why smart schools teach latin, latin itself is a useless language - no-one speaks it. but if you know latin, you will understand where all the words we use come from, and what they actually mean. it just makes the world make more sense.
it's pretty mental actually, because latin was popularized by the romans, who then fell, and the empire split into several different languages like french, old english, german, italian, etc. modern English is actually a reformation of Latin. because it's all those languages coming back together.
that's why they're all very similar - this is opposed to other roots like greek, chinese, and arabic.
