Did you know that,
564 years ago, Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire fell to the Ottoman Empire after a 53 day siege. This effectively ended the Byzantine Empire which ruled from year 330 to 1453. It was a continuation of the Roman Empire and it survived the fragmentation and the fall of the western Roman Empire in the 5th century. The city would eventually be renamed Istanbul by the Ottoman Empire, and the later would also eventually fall in the aftermath of WWI.
